What is Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD)
It's a roadmap created by sports experts and scientists for how to develop kids so they get the most out of physical activity and sports and are prepared for their next stage of participation whether that is as a competitive or recreational athlete. LTAD has been adopted throughout Canada and is a widely recognized method around the world.
Physical Literacy
The foundation of LTAD is building confidence through Physical Literacy. This starts at a young age and progresses into more sports specific literacy as kids get older.
Physical Literacy Defined:
The development of fundamental movement skills and fundamental sports skills that permit a child to move confidently and with control in a wide range of physical activity, sport and dance situations. It also includes the ability to ‘‘read’’ what is going on in their environment and react appropriately to those events.
